The CB RedRum Luxury Staunton Series chess set by “Chess Bazaar”.

What they did…

I am delighted to present the exquisite CB Red Rum luxury series chess set, a true masterpiece crafted from the finest ebony and natural boxwood. Standing proudly at 4.4 inches with a commanding 1.9-inch base, the King is a testament to classic design, featuring a magnificent and robust knight that exemplifies the highest standards of chess artistry.

The dark chess pieces, meticulously carved from sumptuous ebony wood, are a joy to hold, boasting a deep luster and exceptional blackness that elevate the tactile experience to a level of pure indulgence. The opposing pieces, crafted from traditional boxwood, showcase fine aesthetic detail, complementing the rich elegance of the ebony.

This set, designed with the discerning player in mind, includes free extra queens for seamless pawn promotion. Every piece is expertly triple weighted, offering a substantial hand-feel and a satisfying thud on the board. The King, Queen, Bishop, and Pawn are adorned with unique collar rings and thick green felts, ensuring smooth movement across the chessboard. The knights, with their intricate detailing, represent the pinnacle of carving skill, a tribute to the exceptional craftsmanship of artisans.

The knight’s carving is particularly spectacular—its eyes, nostrils, teeth, and mane are rendered with an artistry that makes each piece truly unique. Handcrafted to perfection in India, these pieces are polished by hand, resulting in a luxurious, long-lasting shine that rivals the quality of almost any modern chess set.

Inspired by the legendary racehorse Red Rum, the only horse to win the Aintree Grand National three times, this series embodies the spirit and legacy of a true champion. The knight’s uniform mane and distinctive head shape are a nod to Red Rum in full gallop, capturing the essence of one of the greatest horses to ever grace “The Grand National.” This chess set, like its namesake, is destined to be a legend in its own right.

My opinion of this design…

This Club-size modern chess set is likely one of my absolute favorites in my collection. It exemplifies near perfection in every aspect of its design. Drawing inspiration from the Staunton model, the set achieves an impeccable symmetrical balance, with each piece harmonizing beautifully with the others. The result is a magnificent chess set that is nothing short of stunning when displayed.
