What they did…

Henry Chavet, a renowned chess piece manufacturer, crafted chess sets that became staples in professional play across North America and Europe. These chess pieces are a faithful reproduction of one of the variants of Chavet Chess used in chess championships during the 1980s and 90s.

This particular design was beloved by chess players for its simplicity and clean lines, with no sharp protruding points, making it a pleasure to hold and play with. To capture the vintage charm, the white pieces of the chess army have been artificially aged, giving them the appearance of well-loved, classic chessmen.

My opinion of this design…

I firmly believe that this set best captures the essence of the original Henry Chavet design among all modern reproductions. My admiration for that design runs deep, making it difficult to choose any other Chavet variation that doesn’t evoke the same classic charm. I suppose my preference for the timeless Chavet style just makes me a bit old-fashioned—at least when it comes to chess sets!
